‘We lived our lives..’ was mainly recorded, produced and mixed by Lake between his garage and a DOC hut at the Pinnacles in the Wairarapa. The live drums were recorded by Warwick at The Boardroom in Newtown.

The title of the album comes from Elizabeth Strout's book 'Oh William!' (used with permission).
